Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese art studied to promote relaxation and to encourage meditation. The slow, flowing exercise of the Tai Chi “form” is taught along with several breathing exercises. Students will acquire the knowledge and confidence to approach a myriad of future projects. Most materials supplied to complete a unique footed plant stand or distinctive decorative wall piece. Students are encouraged to bring "findings" they would like to add into their  mosaic design (jewelry, pottery shards, pebbles ,shells, etc.).

Valentine the Penguin Workshop

Come celebrate Valentine’s Day with us as we make Valentine the Penguin. This little buddy wears his heart on his sleeve. You will use a variety of needle felting techniques to create his body and his heart. Different colors will be available for the heart. All materials provided. All levels are welcome!

Beginning Knitting

Hand-building, pinch, coiling, and slab are taught for alternative pottery methods. Students are encouraged to practice during non-class time. Please bring a towel and wear old clothes or apron.

Introduction to throwing on the potter’s wheel, creating basic forms, bowls, cylinders & plates. An explanation of tools, brushes and various found items used for texture (lace, placemats, floor mats, etc.). Hand building using soft slabs, coil, & pinch pots will be explored. Decorating using underglazes. Prepping for glazing & basic glazing techniques will be covered, including some new, fun techniques.

Hand Building Functional Pottery

For beginners to advanced students. The focus of this class is to create unique individual functional pottery and sculptural vessels without the use of a pottery wheel. We will explore pinching, coiling, slab construction, extrusions, and the Japanese carving technique, kurinuki. We will experiment with textures both found and hand made by means of clay stamps. Learn proper underglazing and glaze techniques to complete your wares.

This class is for repeat students only. No beginners please. Expand on basic wheel-thrown forms including matching functional wares & more advanced such as bottles, lids, and toroid. By altering and combining, create new shapes such as teapots, goblets, and free formed vessels. The use of clay slip & commercial underglazes will also be explored for various textures, inlay, chattering & perhaps a few surprises. Open studio time available for students ($5)

Intermediate/Advanced Pottery

This class is for students who want to expand their potter’s wheel and hand building clay journey. Making sets of any form, bowl, mug, etc will be covered. How to measure and calculate the correct amount of clay to use, etc. Using templates for slab construction. Altering on the wheel from a round form to a square, oval form. Throwing parts to assemble, darting, stretching and cutting to create new forms. Decorating using underglaze, slip transfers, etc. Advanced glazing to include wax resist, tape, sponging, shaving cream and bubble glazing. Open studio time available for students ($5)
