TAI CHI  Relaxation!

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese art studied to promote relaxation and to encourage meditation. The slow, flowing exercise of the Tai Chi “form” is taught along with several breathing exercises. Learning to See Through the Artist’s Eye

Are your drawing skills not where you’d want them to be? Or are you just starting out and want to jump-start your drawing skills? This 6-week course emphasizes copying from the visible world. Mr. Pisetzner breaks down the natural seeing process skilled artists employ without thinking. This breakdown includes: vertical and horizontal referencing, border referencing, identifying and using negative space, identifying and employing visual ratios, converting a three-dimensional world into a two dimensional format, and employing imaginative associations, to name a few.

Required materials:

One Sketch pad (suggested size 14 x 17)

Two #2 Pencils

One large eraser

One small sharpener

Optional materials:

2-H pencil

2-B pencil

Tortillion Stick (stump) or soft tissues

Simple 8-color water color tray w/ bowl or cup for water

ACRYLIC PAINTING:

A Journey into Creative Painting

A playful exploration into fantasy or dream imagery or creative designs through both objective and/or non-objective imagery.

Required Materials:

Acrylic Paint (as many colors or as few as desired)

A container for water

A stretched canvas or anything else you’d like to paint on (carpet swatch, sample of wallpaper, heavy paper sketch pad, Card board, piece of wood, etc.)

New Jersey has some of the most beautiful scenery around and almost all of it includes water! Learn how to paint water with pastel and capture the motion and mood. The main focus of these classes will be the ocean. Capturing both calm waters and the splash of waves. Also included, will be instruction for painting sand and dunes. Work from your own favorite photo references or follow along with the instructor. All levels welcome.

Cut glass, break tile & dishes, upcycle, and get creative in our unique mosaic studio stocked with lots of fun supplies and projects.  Learn to work with diverse materials to make your own masterpiece.  This class is suitable for students with experience who would like guidance and studio space, or those just starting who would like to learn this super fun and diverse art medium.  All levels are welcome and encouraged!

Intro to wheel throwing. Explore basic forms and techniques including cylinder, bowl, and plate forms. Decorating and glazing techniques are also explored. Hand-building, pinch, coiling, and slab are taught for alternative pottery methods. Students are encouraged to practice during non-class time. Please come to class with a towel and old clothes or apron. Open studio time available for students ($5)

BEGINNER to INTERMEDIATE POTTERY

For beginners to advanced students. The focus of this class is to create unique individual functional pottery and sculptural vessels without the use of a pottery wheel. We will explore pinching, coiling, slab construction, extrusions, and the Japanese carving technique, kurinuki. We will experiment with textures both found and hand made by means of clay stamps. Learn proper underglazing and glaze techniques to complete your wares. Open studio time available for students ($5)

INTERMEDIATE POTTERY

Materials/Lab Fee $30 plus clay

This class is for repeat students only. No beginners please. Expand on basic wheel-thrown forms including matching functional wares & more advanced such as bottles, lids, and toroid. By altering and combining, create new shapes such as teapots, goblets, and free formed vessels. The use of clay slip & commercial underglazes will also be explored for various textures, inlay, chattering & perhaps a few surprises. Open studio time available for students ($5)
