Come explore a new technique in felting...the reverse needle!  Explore how you can create a “fluffy” texture with felting, and learn to blend colors through using this technique as well!  In this class, you will be taught step by step how to create a chick or a duck and then create this beautiful texture to add a finishing touch!  All levels welcome and all materials provided.

Learn the basics in this class. The studio and clay process will be fully explained. Instruction on using tools. Starting with a simple pinch pot, moving on to coil, slab, and the wheel. Exploration of basic forms, bowls, mugs, etc. Using various texture items like stamps and found objects to impress into soft clay. Decoration using underglazes, prepping for glazing and basic glazing with a few fun surprises! Please bring a towel and apron.

Hand Building Functional Pottery

For beginners to advanced students. The focus of this class is to create unique individual functional pottery and sculptural vessels without the use of a pottery wheel. We will explore pinching, coiling, slab construction, extrusions, and the Japanese carving technique, kurinuki. We will experiment with textures both found and hand made by means of clay stamps. Learn proper underglazing and glaze techniques to complete your wares.

This class is for repeat students only. No beginners please. Expand on basic wheel-thrown forms including matching functional wares & more advanced such as bottles, lids, and toroid. By altering and combining, create new shapes such as teapots, goblets, and free formed vessels. The use of clay slip & commercial underglazes will also be explored for various textures, inlay, chattering & perhaps a few surprises. Open studio time available for students ($5)

This class is for students who want to expand their potter’s wheel and hand building clay journey. Making sets of any form, bowl, mug, etc will be covered. How to measure and calculate the correct amount of clay to use, etc. Using templates for slab construction. Altering on the wheel from a round form to a square, oval form. Throwing parts to assemble, darting, stretching and cutting to create new forms. Decorating using underglaze, slip transfers, slip trailing, and basic brushwork. Glazing using wax resist, tape, sponging, shaving cream and bubble glazing for fun effects.
