August 2008 Exhibit:

Letitia Lee

Letitia Lee is a contemporary African-American artist working in acrylic and oil paints.  Ms. Lee employs diverse and ever-evolving creative methods in the pursuit of a final piece.  It is Ms. Lee’s goal to constantly grow and progress through her art, “I accredit my array of works to my fear of becoming a myopic mind…As a kid, I didn’t like the idea of being boxed into one idea or way of doing things. Some things don’t change!”  Ms. Lee extracts her subject matter from her own life journey, “If life triggers an emotion out of me I like to share it, good or bad, blissful or horrific”.  Ms. Lee’s active and vital compositions have universal appeal as they have grown out of Letitia Lee’s philosophy, “I feel people are more alike than different so most will relate”.

Ms. Lee was self educated in the arts at an early age, although she lacked the opportunity to participate in organized art classes, Letitia  nonetheless recognized and nurtured her own inner passion for creativity.  Later, Ms. Lee majored in Fine Arts and Broadcast communications at Elon University.  Letitia Lee has exhibited her work internationally, and her creations have been displayed in many venues including the Black History Museum of Richmond, Virginia.  Ms. Lee has completed several large scale public art works, inclusive of one mural composed for the Holocaust Museum in Richmond, Virginia.  Ms. Lee has been featured by Port of Harlem Magazine, Black Enterprise Magazine and N Deep Magazine.  Letitia Lee has used the power of her creativity to affect social change with the donation of many works in support of charitable causes.
