WORKSHOPS SEA SHELL TOTE BAG Sue Rau ALTERED BOOKS Lois Maher Session 1: This class begins with the basics including choosing a book, preparing the book and pages, and planning a theme. We’ll also get started creating backgrounds. Session 2: We’ll explore a variety of mixed media techniques for developing more complex backgrounds and embellishing pages. Participants are encouraged to bring copies of photos, personal mementos, ephemera and other materials to enhance their book. A materials list is available for each class All required materials will be provided. BASIC SCRAPBOOKING Betty Lou Cassidy Bring your family pictures and learn how to display them on 12”x12” scrapbook paper. WATERCOLOR WORKSHOPS Kim Weiland A full day workshop dealing with all concepts of perfecting your watercolor skills. Students will start with a basic review of watercolor technique and through the day we will advance into a process of demonstration and individual one on one guidance and critique. Workshop students are asked to bring their own photos. Please bring your own supplies and be punctual and prepared for a fun but informative day of painting. We will break for lunch from 12 until 12:45 so please pack your lunch. SUPPLY LIST AVAILABLE. 8/10 FABRIC MARBLING Lois Maher Adults (limited to 6 students) No special skills are required for this class-just a willingness to experiment and have fun. Students will create a variety of bold and colorful patterns on cotton fabrics using permanent, colorfast dyes. Marketing your Artwork—how do you know what direction to take? Is it worth the time and money? When should you expect a profit? What is the best move—galleries, presentations, or use of the Internet? A 1 hour lecture/presentation, followed by a 30 minute question/answer and discussion. Be there! Maximum of 10 students FURNITURE PAINTING OLD OR NEW Sue Rae Saturday July 19 9:30-3:00 $35 plus $20 supply fee Adults ALL SANDING AND STRIPPING MUST BE DONE BEFORE CLASS. It cannot be done at the Arts Center. This workshop will involve two days. Friday will be for the preparation of the furniture piece Patterns, primers and some paint colors will be available to decorate your piece. The BASE color will be provided by you.. You should use some standard wall paint—flat or eggshell will do. Friday: Priming and painting the piece, and planning the design to go on the piece will be done Friday evening. Patterns will be available, or you can bring your own. Saturday: Putting the design on the furniture and painting it. Pen & Ink, Charcoal Pencils, Water Soluble Crayons. 6/10 FABRIC DYEING FOR BEGINNERS Lois Maher Adults (limited to 6 students) Fiber Reactive Dyes are easy to use, permanent and very versatile. They will dye plant based fibers like cotton, linen, viscose rayon, hemp, jute, paper, wood and bamboo. We’ll look at a variety of immersion, resist, painting and stamping techniques. Two yards of cotton fabric will be provided to each student for hands on practice. DYES ARE MESSY - DRESS APPROPRIATELY 1/6 CRACKED CHINA MOSAIC Venera Hoerrmann 9:30 am –3 pm $250 + $20-$35 supply fee Ages 12 & up Pique Assiette is a French term for the art of using bits and pieces of broken china to make decorative mosaic pieces for the home and garden. It’s easy to learn this dynamic craft. A large selection of hand-cut china will be available. Choose from a variety of functional forms such as a Lazy Susan, Iron Tables, Frames, Trays, Birdbaths and more. Depending on the project chosen there will be a $20-$35 material fee payable to the instructor. 6/15 TRADITIONAL RUG HOOKING Julianne Mackey 10 am –2 pm $35 + $50 kit supply fee Beginners to Advanced Adults Hook a Victorian Heart Wall Pocket. Learn traditional rug hooking techniques creating a “crazy quilt”. All materials provided to finish including cut hand dyed wool, trim , hook, needle, DMC floss, hoop, and heart backing. Student must supply: scissors, a light if necessary and lunch 7/12 EMBOSSED SILVER FRAME Betty Lou Cassidy Using the kit materials make an embossed (or raised design) on a wooden frame which is then covered with silver tape and worked to show the pattern. Make one like the sample, or design your own. Kit fee payable to instructor $5.00 3/10
