LOSING YOUR FEAR OF WATERCOLOR

This class will give you skills to help you paint in watercolor, and lose your fears about the medium. Come have some fun, and learn some new skills or improve the skills you already have. Watercolor should be enjoyed, not feared. Occasionally a supply fee will be charged to cover the cost of paints and other supplies. This fee will be paid directly to the teacher at the beginning of the class. 6/28

PAINTING WITH ACRYLICS

Beginner to experienced artists will work with acrylics to create finished paintings. Emphasis will be on good drawing foundation, underpainting and working the piece up to finished painting. Students will use photo reference of a variety of subjects. Supply list available.

FOLK ART FUN

I can guide you in finishing unfinished work and help you start new projects in furniture painting or gift items you want to paint. How about something special for yourself? This class is for fun. A how-to-lesson will be given the first Monday of each month. A different technique will be presented each month. Occasionally a supply fee will be charged to cover paint and/or a project. This 6-week course is an exploration in not simply painting a picture , but creating magic with watercolors and taking your work to an entirely new level. Break away from a tight, laborious style and enjoy the fresh, clean, glowing effects achieved through the direct painting techniques. Marie will guide you on a journey of exploring your inner artist, showing you a fearless method of using the vibrancy of color and understanding the importance of color theory and value contrasts in your work. This 2-hour class promises to be fun and informative.

Beginners learn the principles of drawing by working with basic shapes and the still life. This basic course concentrates on developing awareness of line, form, shape, texture and perspective using various techniques and materials. In this class we will do small pieces (one finished piece each class). Subjects will vary and so will the papers we work on. You will have fun with this medium. It is fast, the colors are fun and the results are always successful.

HAIKU & RELATED FORMS

Learn the centuries old art of haiku and related forms: senryu, tanka, haibun, and renga. We will explore the peace and serenity that is nature, and compose poems about one breath in length, from what we find there.

No experience necessary! This course is designed for people interested in clay work at all levels. Tiles, address plates, coil pots and boxes are popular forms. Unlike slipcast work, we use the potter’s wheel, slabs & coils to build from scratch! Glazing and decorating pieces are also covered. Satisfaction & fun guaranteed. THROWING ON THE WHEEL

This course is designed for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Basic instruction in preparing clay for throwing and learning how to center, open up and throw a cylinder that can be made into a cup, vase, bowl, etc. Experienced students will be taught how to make pitchers, casseroles with lids, wine goblets, etc. Trimming and glazing are also included. Students need to be prepared with trimmed fingernails and a towel. Must be at least 18 years old. Class is limited to 8 people. Register Early!
*Make-up classes will only occur if OCAC or teacher cancels class.

CRAFTING

STENCIL & PRINT ON FABRIC

FABRIC DESIGN & DYING TECHNIQUES

This workshop is for quilters, fiber artists and those enjoying something new. Similar to Batik and Ikat, the process uses a reduction agent, moisture and heat to remove dye color in patterns on cloth and yarn. Designs will be “discharged” on commercial cotton, rayon, linen and silk fabric using stamps, stencils and immersion. Not all dyes and fabric will reduce, so bring pieces of your favorite cloth to try. Always produces many surprises!!

WOOD CARVING

This class will teach basic wood carving of songbirds and small shorebirds. Pre-sawn blanks will be provided at the first class for each student. The student may choose one of several species. Upon completion of the original piece new blanks may be sawn and purchased from the instructor after discussing the practicality of the chosen subject and the skill of the student. Students may choose to paint their carvings with acrylics with suitable reference photos of the chosen bird. The carvings may also be left in the natural color of the wood, usually pine, cedar or basswood, or stained. Sources of carving supplies will be made available, as well as discussions of knife sharpening techniques, carving tools available, painting materials and display applications. A limited number of carving knives will be available, so if a student has tools they are familiar with they should bring them to the class. Aprons are desirable to protect clothes.

Violin group will be a once a week group open to all ages and skill levels. Students do not need to be taking private lessons through the OCAC to be eligible. At Summer’s end students in group will perform a concert in which every student will be able and encouraged to play a solo piece.

Open to all students, this is an 8 week program with rehearsals once weekly. At the end of 8 weeks the students will all perform in a fun end of the summer concert as a group and will also be able to play a solo of their choice.
