ARTIST'S CORNER: GENERAL INFORMATION THIS YEAR'S AWARDS CEREMONY will be at the ARTS CENTER again on FRIDAY EVE. during Devin Yalkin's Gallery Opening/Reception. ARTS CENTER'S TENT IS AT THE MUSIC PIER; T-SHIRTS, PROGRAMS, BLANK SURVEYS AND GENERAL INFORMATION AVAILABLE THROUGH VOLUNTEERS WORKING ALL 3 DAYS. The Boardwalk Art Show is 47 years old this year! Did you know that it is one of Ocean City's oldest organized events? It has been a source for healthy sales, a rich sharing of artwork and ideas, and opportunity to present the art of talented artists. The Ocean City Boardwalk and all it's attractions draw tens of thousands of individuals for three days of viewing the work of participating artists in the height of the tourist season. Over half of the artists are returning after many, many years of success at the BAS. AWARDS: 5 Judges (ALWAYS DIFFERENT JUDGES EACH YEAR FOR ALL AWARDS EXCEPT THE PURCHASE AWARD, WHICH IS CHOSEN BY OUR BOARD & 1-2 OTHER JUDGES) working Friday 8/7. JUDGING @ 11AM. Awards Announcements/Presentations will be with our Mayor Perillo and Board Members of the Arts Center, FRIDAY EVENING (Aug. 7th) AT THE ARTS CENTER during Devin Yalkin's (August Gallery Exhibitor) Opening/Reception. We will do our best to get to the booths of winners -- if you are an award winner, please try to make it to the Arts Center by 7:30 to receive your award! All winners will be announced by public address throughout the weekend on the boardwalk. LODGING QUESTIONS: Do not delay making reservations. Please refer to OceanCityChamber.Com website (now new and improved)
This can be the opportunity you needed to get your work out there, as well as achieve sales. However, we will never tell you that it comes without a strong physical effort.
Realities of the Boardwalk: Benches, flower pots, smoking sections, etc. change year to year. Your space may have a bench..some artists like the benches for anchoring their belongings and utilizing them for display. Tents can fit behind the railings, enclosing the bench into the space. Volunteers will be available to demonstrate and assist within reason. NJ DIVISION OF TAXATION: 609-292-6400 or www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation fax: 609-826-4500 BOARDWALK MAPS: For a copy of the City's Boardwalk Map please send request to lorraineh@oceancityartscenter.org, or log onto OCNJ.US BOOTH SITTING & SPECIAL NEEDS LOADING/UNLOADING : We want to know your special needs. Our volunteers increase in number and in assistance every year, and we do not want you to hesitate to ask for help with regard to your Friday morning, and possibly Sunday afternoon. Please remember to thank them. They are volunteers, art enthusiasts, and friends who just want to help out. Please call 609-399-7628 prior to the show to schedule loading/unloading special assistance or scheduled booth sitting-we will do our best! ADVERTISING: We receive concerns about our advertising efforts. So, last year we made available a collection of the multiple items of advertising and featured articles--including Phildadelphia papers--at the tent. Please remember, most of you are not here for the majority of the announcing that is done. We will continue to have our ads and articles available for your enjoyment & review, and we will most-certainly continue to reach better levels of advertising to reach the buying public, OVERNIGHT PARKING FOR NON-RESIDENT-type VEHICLES: ALTHOUGH THE SIGNS SAY: "NO TRAILERS ALLOWED" we have made SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS with the city allowing Boardwalk Art Show artists to park their trailers at the 5th-6th Street and West Ave. Parking Lot (next to the firehouse). PLEASE PUT YOUR PARKING CARD that is mailed to you in your vehicles window or an obvious place. Should you have any problems whatsoever with this procedure, you must call the Arts Center or see us at the booth at your next possible opportunity. YOU MAY NOT CAMP/LIVE AT THAT LOT! (Vehicles only) Please understand that while we receive a great deal of support and help from the City, they cannot alter their usual routine and regulations to accommodate the BAS. It is impossible, as many have requested, to allow anyone to drive onto the boardwalk--yes, we receive many requests to have that rule changed! It'll never happen--sorry. Nor, will we impose the idea of altering a time change on allowable bicycles until noon on the boardwalk for BAS weekend. SURVEYS, CONCERNS & GENERAL FEEDBACK: Each year we hand out a survey to all artists in a packet of items on Friday morning. The surveys are VERY important to us. We grow the show from your feedback. We're concerned, however, with the continuing complaints on some issues even after they are resolved. This, however, is on our shoulders as we are clearly not communicating opportunities of resolve to you in order to meet your needs during the show. We will cover some of the consistent concerns you have reported on this page. For information on your concern, please look for items listed in green on this page. PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR A COPY OF THE 2009 SURVEY Send your surveys to info@oceancityartscenter.org or Ocean City Arts Center, 1735 Simpson Ave., Ocean City, NJ 08226.
